Following our article in the last issue, announcing the withdrawal of the Nestor Recognition image engine, we are pleased to announce that with the introduction of the Pearson NCS iNSIGHT scanner, the company has re-introduced this option as it is shipped as standard with the iNSIGHT scanner.
It means that Print & Scan can once again incorporate a seamless image solution which fills the gap in its product range by working alongside its OMR and Web based technologies whilst offering a good quality but cost effective solution. To further implement this mid range solution work is continuing on another version of the Print & Scan Image software which uses the Pegasus Imaging character recognition software. As stated previously, tests and responses from a number of suppliers indicated that the Pegasus option was the only one that matched the stringent criteria laid down.
Neither this product or the Nestor solution from Pearson NCS is intended to compete at the top end with the Eyes and Hands product from Readsoft, but will give users the ability to employ lower cost alternatives that will integrate into Print & Scan in the same way that the original Nestor engine was incorporated into the software.
For potential Pearson NCS iNSIGHT users, new drivers are being made available in October with the introduction of the new Scantools Plus system which replaces the Image Scantools option.
